Bluetooth
Low Energy (BLE):
Bluetooth Low Energy is usually a Wi-Fi personalized region network
technology used for transmitting information over small ranges. As the name
implies, it’s designed for low energy consumption and cost, even though
preserving any communication range just like of which of its predecessor,
Classic Bluetooth.
How
BLE different from Classic Bluetooth?
Power
Consumption: Bluetooth Low Energy, as the name
implies, has low energy requirements. It can last up around 3-4 years on a
single coin cell battery.
Lower
Cost: BLE cost is 70-80% cheaper than Regular Bluetooth.
Application:
BLE is perfect for simple apps requiring small periodic transmission of
information. Classic Bluetooth can be favored regarding more complicated apps
requiring reliable transmission and more data throughput.BLE is for easy apps
requiring little routine transactions regarding data.
How
BLE communication will works?
BLE communication consists mostly of “Advertisements”, or
modest packets of data, broadcast at a regular interval by Beacons or BLE
permitted devices by means of radio waves.
BLE Promotion is often a one-way transmission technique.
Beacons of which want to be “discovered” can send out, or even “Advertise”
self-contained packets involving info in arranged periods. These kinds of
packets are usually supposed to always be obtained by means of equipment
similar to intelligent telephones, in which they can be useful for various
smart phone applications in order to trigger items like thrust emails, software
actions, and also requests.
How does iBeacon use BLE
communication?
IBeacon has
standardized the format for BLE Advertising as follow:
UUID: is a 16 byte string used to separate a substantial
band of connected beacons. If retailer maintained a network of beacons in a
chain of its stalls, all the retailer’s beacons would share the same UUID. This
enables retailer’s specific Smartphone application to know that beacon advertising
originated from retailer owned beacons.
Major: is a 2 byte string used to identify an inferior subset
connected with beacons within the larger group.
Minor: is a 2 byte string meant to recognize individual
beacons which allow retailer’s dedicated app to know exactly where the customer
is in the store.
Tx Power: used to determine proximity from the beacon. TX power
is defined as the strength of the signal exactly 1 meter from the device.
